The history of airsoft and among all realistic replica firearms goes back to the late 1960`s Japan, when Ueno`s legendary military surplus shop Nakata Shoten came up with their pot-metal "holster-fillers" to display with their WW2 vintage surplus holsters. Kobayashi aka Tanio Koba then went in creating the first shell-ejecting cap-firing "modelguns" which ultimately became the direct descendant to all airsofts today.(Not to mention his later creation in Liquid-gas powered automatic airsoftguns as well as Gas-Blowback mechanism)
Thorough the epoch-making days of Japanese replica firearms, Japanese Gov`t has attempted to pass numbers of regulations and restrictions for those realistic toys. Fully metal (metal Slide&Frame) construction in handgun replicas is banned (unless its made out of zinc metal or weaker material with its metal body fully plated Gold, its bore completely closed, the filling being visible from the muzzle) .Japanese manufacturers and enthusiasts have since then started devoting their time and effort into recreating the realistic surface finish and weight of real-steel as much as possible, but on rather plain looking ABS built plastic body. Numbers of special paints, plating technologies, then "HeavyWeight plastic" (ABS mixed with powdered steel) were invented.
BARNS Custom finish handguns are in fact completely "stock" internally, however, each handguns are hand-finished then weathered in superb details to replicate the looks and feel of fairly to heavily used real steel counterparts. There are many after-market metal slide/frame kits available today, yet very few products are well optimized to cycle the blowback of heavy metal slides. トイガン文化創世期において、日本の政府としては幾多にわたる規制をおこなってきたが、特に拳銃のもつ犯罪的、暴力的イメージに対してナイーブである日本では、フルメタル（スライド＆フレーム）で製造されるハンドガンのレプリカを、例外付き（亜鉛合金以下の硬度で作られ、銃身は固定式で完全封鎖、全体が金色ならOK）で所持禁止としている。それゆえに、日本のメーカー、愛好家ともに、プラスチックでできた銃の外見をいかに金属質に見せ、いかに重さを近づけるかに切磋琢磨してきた。数々の特殊塗料、メッキ技術、鉄粉を配合したヘビーウェイト樹脂などが登場した。 ここで紹介するBARNS製カスタム仕上げシリーズのハンドガン達は、内部こそストックのままであるが、確かな仕上げとウェザリングの技術を持った職人が、一丁一丁時間と手間をかけて、実銃の凄みのある金属肌を再現した一品達である。
